Florida Panthers Acquire Tim Bozon From Canadiens
As teams look to finalize their rosters, not just at the NHL level but below as well, some will do so by making a trade or two to sure up positions that might need some help.
The Florida Panthers, sensing the depth that they are going to have in the AHL, traded a former third round pick of theirs.
Jonathan Racine has played nearly 200 games at the AHL level, all in the Panthers’ system, but has only appeared in a single game with the NHL team. Today he was traded to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Tim Bozon.
Bozon, 22, was the Canadiens’ third round pick back in 2012. During his last two seasons of junior hockey, Bozon recorded 131 points while tallying 30 goals both years. In his first professional season, Bozon split time in the AHL and ECHL, and didn’t really set the stat sheet on fire at either level.
While playing for St. Johns’ (AHL), Bozon scored 8 points in 41 games. For Brampton (ECHL) he fared better, tallying 9 in just 15 games.
Racine could never get in position to become a regular at the NHL level, and with a new wave of young defensemen it wasn’t likely he was ever going to be. More known for his physical play, Racine has registered just 23 points in his AHL career compared to 335 penalty minutes. All though, he has seen his point production increase in each of his three full seasons in the minors. He recorded a minor penalty in his lone game with the Panthers.
During his draft year, Racine was a part of a third round that also netted the Panthers Logan Shaw, Vincent Trocheck and Kyle Rau.
The Panthers play their final preseason game today, a game against the same team they will start the season against, the New Jersey Devils. The game will be played at West Point.
