Flames' Wideman suspended indefinitely for hit on linesman

Calgary Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman has been suspended indefinitely for knocking linesman Don Henderson to the ice.

Wideman will have a chance to explain cross-checking Henderson in the back on Wednesday when he participates in a hearing with the league following the All-Star break. Wideman told reporters following the Flames' 2-1 setback to the Nashville Predators that the collision was unintentional.

"I was kind of keeled over and at the last second, I looked up and I saw him and I couldn't avoid it," Wideman said.

Wideman could face a suspension of upwards of 20 games for deliberately attempting to injure an official.
