Ex-star Fedorov sues lawyers over money loss

Published Oct. 15, 2009 10:44 p.m. ET

Former NHL star Sergei Fedorov is suing his former Michigan attorneys, claiming they share responsibility for the loss of millions of dollars invested with another client.

Fedorov said the Birmingham law firm Hyman Lippitt PC had a conflict by representing him and financial adviser Joseph Zada.

Fedorov said he's out $60 million through Zada, and a Wayne County judge recently ruled that the Russian star was entitled to the money.

Fedorov filed a lawsuit on Thursday in federal court in Detroit, alleging the Hyman Lippitt firm knew Zada had been sued by others for financial mismanagement.

Fedorov plays ice hockey in Russia. He was the NHL MVP in 1994 and won three Stanley Cups in 13 seasons with the Detroit Red Wings.
