Dallas Stars Countdown to Hocktober
We’ve got a bit to go before regular hockey starts back up, but there are a few things to help take the edge off along the way.
It’s starting to get cooler outside (in certain parts of the world), and there’s a light at the end of the long dog days of summer tunnel. Kids have returned to school and Starbucks has resorted to the dastardly sin of premature pumpkin spicing.
But we’ve still yet to get our hockey back. Each day past is one day closer, but for those of you like us at Blackout Dallas who feel like you can’t stand one more day, here’s what’s left standing between you and the floodgates holding back all the hockey.
September 17- October 1: World Cup of Hockey in Canada.
Not only are we anticipating that the World Cup of Hockey will be super hockey-ish this year because it’s being hosted by the birthplace of hockey, but for us Dallas Stars fans who feel like we’ve gone forever without a fix, we get to see some of our favorite Stars in action, minus the rehabbing Benn.

September 23: Training Camp in Cedar Park opens.
We’ve speculated about who will come out the other side of training camp on the roster, but we do know that we’ve gotten used to seeing some familiar faces at the informal skates in Frisco that we’ll have to say a permanent goodbye to.
While Jamie Benn, who inked his new contract this summer, should be patched up in time to hit Cedar Park, the Stars will be sporting a new squad and determining which players out of them are season ready.
September 26: First pre-season game against St. Louis at the AAC.
The Stars and the Blues have some recent history, and the Stars have some fresh wounds they could be seeking vengeance for come the end of this September.
As their first pre-season game and at home, no less, the Stars will want to earn some emotional recompense for suffering an early end to last postseason.
October 13: First Regular season game against Anaheim at the AAC.
This should be a good one, too. Ever since being knocked out of the first playoff round by the Ducks back in 2014, I think we’ve all been a little bitter at the Ducks (as we should be), and we’ve expressed it mostly in our hate for Corey Perry.
This first home game of the season could amp up a long-standing rivalry to the next level, or help the Stars start the season out on a good note.
So, everyone, don’t give up hope quite yet. We’ve got a bit of hockey still on the calendar before the advent of Hocktober. We’re getting closer to that first game of the season each day. Which pre-hockey hockey event will help you take off the edge the most?
