Chicago Blackhawks Morning Links- Captain's Year
Good Morning Chicago Blackhawks fans! Last year was a disappointing season for the Chicago Blackhawks Captain Jonathan Toews especially on the offensive side of things, but with the longest offseason since the lockout will this be a huge rebound season for the #19?
Everything I’ve read all offseason long about Jonathan Toews has been about how he needed a long offseason to re-charge his batteries like the rest of the Chicago Blackhawks core.
You know it wasn’t one of Toews best seasons when he didn’t even finish as a finalist for the Selke Award for being one of the best two-way forwards in the NHL which as Chicago Blackhawks fans we all know that he is on a nightly basis.
The problem for Toews most of the year was having no set winger on the other side of Marian Hossa. From the time of the Brandon Saad trade everyone believed it would be Marko Dano but that never panned out.
The opening night winger was Teuvo Teravainen who scored a goal that night, but then was banished to the bottom six for most of the season which meant players like Andrew Shaw would get a crack until the Andrew Ladd trade deadline deal came through.
Even with Ladd the top line never really clicked all season long, and now that we are closing in on October the answer seems to be just they needed rest. I’m not buying that answer very much right now because Marian Hossa just isn’t the Hossa that we all knew even 3 years ago because of Father Time catching up. Can he be good again in small sample size? I don’t see 82 games of top line greatness out of #81 anymore.
The other problem is the fact that will it really be Richard Panik on the other wing. Sure he has some good games but will a Panik-Toews-Hossa top line really make it the Captain’s Year?
