The Chicago Blackhawks Milk Carton looks back at last night’s game, and we look at the Blackhawks player that was missing for 60 minutes.
The Chicago Blackhawks took the lead early in the contest against the St. Louis Blues last night, and even with the lead one player looked extremely shaky from the start. That player of course was Trevor van Riemsdyk who was fumbling pucks early in the game, and struggling to clear pucks deep in his own end.
The stat line for TVR is as follows:
0 Goals 0 Assists 0 Points 4 penalty Minutes 16:06 Time on Ice
The fact that TVR was with Duncan Keith to hide him seems like a tactical error by Joel Quenneville instead of burying him in the third pairing like Q usually does, and just play him in only optimal situations instead of throwing him out there when the Hawks needed solid minutes from their defenseman.
TVR’s first penalty ended up in the back of the net when the St. Louis Blues scored on their first powerplay. The frustrations with TVR continued in the third period when he was called for boarding on a play that looked like he could have eased up on the check instead of causing the Hawks to go back to the penalty kill when they need to get back to the offense with the Hawks trailing 3-2.
The good news about TVR is that Niklas Hjalmarsson is only suspended for one game, which should mean that TVR will be watching from the pressbox for the foreseeable future.
Two Chicago Blackhawks rookies looked way more confident in their debuts with the team. Michal Kempny looked like a polish defender with a good shot with some very good instincts on when to pinch and when to get back on defense. He looks like he has some offensive skills that will be called on in the future.
The other rookie was Gustav Forsling who has been talked about for sometime now from the coaching staff to Chicago Blackhawks writers and bloggers.
Forsling made some slick stick handling in his own end to get the puck out of danger. He made some great reads and had some really good passes to get the puck out of his own end. Forsling can get turned around on defense so it’s not like he’s a perfect defenseman, but he has the look of a player that will be around for some a long time.

TVR on the other hand was missing all night, and he’s our first Milk Carton nominee for the 2016-2017 season.
