Published Dec. 20, 2014 11:53 p.m. ET

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) The Carolina Hurricanes have activated forward Alexander Semin from injured reserve.

General manager Ron Francis announced the move Saturday night about an hour after the Hurricanes' 3-2 shootout loss to the New York Rangers.

Semin missed five games with a lower-body injury and has one goal and five assists in 21 games.

To make room for Semin, the Hurricanes sent forward Justin Shugg to their AHL affiliate in Charlotte.
