Canadiens coach Therrien blasts team for not moving on after Winter Classic
The Montreal Canadiens appear to be savoring their win over the Boston Bruins in the 2016 NHL Winter Classic a little bit too much. Canadiens coach Michel Therrien blasted the team's emotional state following a 4-3 loss to the Flyers Tuesday night.
The Canadiens led in the game, were out-shot 12-4 in the first period (and 31-24 in the game), and went 0-for-4 on the power play.
Via the Montreal Gazette:
"Emotionally we’re not there, since the guys were thinking again and again of the game that we played three days ago," Therrien told reporters.
The Canadiens moved to 2-8-0 in their last 10 games thanks to the loss, and their only wins came in the Winter Classic and via a 4-3 shootout win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 28. Montreal now sits in a tie for second place in the division with the Detroit Red Wings with 47 points each. The Habs are five points behind the first-place Florida Panthers and are just three points ahead of the Boston Bruins and Ottawa Senators, who are tied for third in the division with 44 points each.
