Calgary Flames Daily: Game Day, Skating At Central Park

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:53 a.m. ET

Good morning Calgary Flames fans! It’s another cold day in Calgary which is perfect to stay home and watch a Flames game and the Superbowl.

It’s an early game day for the Calgary Flames today against a tough team, the New York Rangers. These two teams have already met earlier this season where the Flames lost 4-1. That was back when the Flames were still not-that-great. That was also back when the Rangers were one of the best teams in the NHL.

However, the Rangers haven’t been doing the best in the new year. In the new year, the Rangers are 6-6-0, which puts them at 28th in the league in that span. The Flames aren’t much better however, being 7-7-0.

The Flames are, however, currently on a three-game win streak and Sean Monahan is one goal from being the youngest Flame in franchise history to ever reach 100 goals. TJ Brodie net four assists last game which is the first Flames defencemen since Dion Phaneuf in 2008 to net four assists in one game, so he’ll also be somebody to watch tonight. Then there is also Brian Elliott who, if he wants to keep playing, will need to help his team to a win. So the Flames will definitely have a lot of push today.

And what happened yesterday when the Flames got to New York?

Well, they had some fun at Central Park. Where they actually got to practice outdoors there.

    Via Calgaryflames.com:

“It’s a cool experience,” said centre Matt Stajan, as he soaked up the atmosphere. “It’s Central Park … you don’t get many opportunities to get here in your lifetime, let alone with your hockey team to skate in the middle of it in front of fans. I think we should all really take in this experience and be thankful we had it as it probably won’t happen again.”
