Bruins prospect Seth Griffith nets game-winner in triple overtime
The Boston Bruins are out of the playoffs but AHL-affiliate Providence is not, and the baby Bs played a triple-overtime epic on Sunday featuring some familiar faces. Bruins prospect Seth Griffith, who played 30 games with Boston this season, scored the game-winner for Providence at 2:00 of triple-OT to help Providence to a 2-1 win over the Hartford Wolfpack. The Bruins earned a 2-1 series lead in the best-of-five first round thanks to the win.
For Griffith, the goal was a nice reward for his improved play during the playoffs.
"The playoffs were kind of a fresh start for me and I think I've been playing a little better than usual, so hopefully I can just continue to do that," Griffith told the Boston Herald.
While Griffith's goal was a bright spot for Bruins fans, there was a concerning moment earlier in the game involving rookie defenseman David Pastrnak. The rising star was crushed against the boards on a hit in the first overtime and left the ice clutching his hip. He did not return to the game, but Providence coach Bruce Cassidy told the Boston Herald after the game that Pastrnak is day-to-day.
