Bruins coach Julien: Inexperience is 'certainly not an excuse for us'
The Boston Bruins are off to their worst start in 16 years, but coach Claude Julien is not about to make excuses for the lacking roster he has to work with. The Bruins are loaded with bottom-six players and bottom-pairing defensemen, but they do not have much in the way of a middle class of experienced NHL players.
Still, Julien said the team needs to overcome that obstacle quickly.
"As individuals, they just have to have that confidence to do the right things," Julien told the Boston Globe. "We’ve got to expect them to be able to do the right things out there. A few mistakes from inexperience is one thing. It’s certainly not an excuse for us."
The Bruins are about to add more inexperience to their blue line. Defenseman Joe Morrow was place on injured reserve Tuesday with a case of the flu while Providence Bruin Tommy Cross was called up into action for the Bruins' upcoming two-game road trip out west. Cross, a 26-year-old left-shot defenseman, has never played in an NHL game, and his professional career has been stunted at times due to the repercussions of an old knee injury.
