Zack Martin injured during Tuesday's practice with Rams

BY foxsports • August 18, 2015

Although the brawl between the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Rams stole the headlines, there was a bigger development during Tuesday's joint practice, as Cowboys starting right guard Zack Martin left with an injury.

According to Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Williams went down and stayed down on the field for several minutes as trainers attended to him. The trainers called for the cart, but eventually Martin got up and walked off on his own. Before he left the field, trainers were working on his neck and shoulder areas.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said he hoped the injury was no more than a so-called "stinger," but that it was too early to tell. He and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones were among those around Martin while he was checked by the medical staff.

A first-round pick out of Notre Dame last year, Martin was the first rookie All-Pro for the Cowboys since running back Calvin Hill in 1969. Martin broke out after immediately entrenching himself with the first team offensive line at right guard. After just one season, he already is considered one of the best right guards in the NFL. Martin's absence could mean more work for rookie La'El Collins.
