Zac Dysert quarterbacks the second-team Broncos offense
Broncos coach Gary Kubiak made a not-so-subtle change at practice this week.
When Peyton Manning subbed out with two sessions to go, his usual replacement stayed on the sideline. And Denver's No. 3 quarterback, Zac Dysert, took snaps instead.
"I don't know if it means anything or they're just giving me a shot,'' Dysert told 9News Denver. "(I'll) hopefully try to take advantage."
Brock Osweiler is still viewed as the heir at quarterback when Manning retires. But according to reports, the Broncos' backup had an up-and-down practice week early in OTAs. Kubiak could just be sending a message.
Dysert is no practice star himself. But he moved the offense in OTAs, and he's moved the team down the field in past preseason appearances.
"When the lights turn on something just goes on for me," he said. "I just play better. In college I was under pressure my whole career. I feel like I can handle pressure pretty well. Hopefully I'll be able to show that this year."
He's already getting that shot. Dysert got two valuable periods worth of snaps with the No. 2 team, which is as high as he'll climb with Manning still throwing.
