WR Golden could be in line to see time in secondary for Cardinals

Brittan Golden is having a hard time cracking a deep and talented wide receiving corps with the Arizona Cardinals, but he may see an opportunity on the other side of the ball.

Cardinals coach Bruce Arians said Golden will work with the defensive backs in practice this week, most likely at cornerback in the team's nickel packages. Golden is on board with the move, although he admitted he was taken aback when Arians told him of the plan.

“I was ... ‘OK, whatever. Whatever happens, I’m ready,’ ” Golden told the team's official website.

Starting cornerback Jerraud Powers suffered a calf strain in Sunday's win at San Francisco, leaving Arizona short-handed in the secondary. The Cardinals made a pair of moves to address that on Tuesday, signing former Dallas Cowboys cornerback Corey White to the active roster and safety D.J. Swearinger to the practice squad.

Golden, who plays primarily on special teams and has seen some time at punt returner, has not played in the defensive backfield since high school, although he said he spent some time there on the scout team as a freshman at West Texas A&M.

“Of course, I’m going to miss running routes. ... But it’s another opportunity,” Golden said. “In this league, it’s the more you can do and I’m just going to try and see it as an opportunity and a blessing and another chance to get on the field.”
