With skid at five games, Rams fire offensive coordinator Cignetti
The St. Louis Rams fired offensive Frank Cignetti on Monday in the wake of the team's five-game losing streak.
Assistant head coach/offense Rob Boras will take over the play-calling duties for the Rams, who are averaging 10.8 points during their five-game skid and have been outscored 58-10 in their last two contests, including a 27-3 beating by the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.
Cignetti was in his first year as St. Louis' offensive coordinator after spending the previous three season as the team's quarterbacks coach. The Rams have the league's worst passing attack with an average of 186.6 yards per game.
"We thank Frank for his hard work and dedication over the last four years," St. Louis coach Jeff Fisher said in a statement released by the team. "We wish him the best moving forward."
Boras is in his fourth season with the Rams and first as assistant coach/offense. He spent the first three years working with the tight ends after serving in similar capacities with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Chicago Bears dating to 2004.
Boras' only experience as an offensive coordinator came in his final three seasons at Nevada-Las Vegas (2001-03) under John Robinson, the former Southern California coach.
St. Louis will have a new starter at quarterback for Sunday's matchup versus the visiting Detroit Lions. Case Keenum, who suffered a concussion in his first start after replacing Nick Foles, will be back under center against the Lions.
Foles, who had been benched in favor of Keenum following a 37-13 loss to Chicago on Nov. 1, did not have a touchdown pass in his past four games and has thrown for more than 200 yards only twice in 11 starts.
