Vikings OC Norv Turner: 'We want to be a top-10 offense'

Norv Turner has set a lofty goal for his second season as the Minnesota Vikings' offensive coordinator.

"We want to be a top-10 offense," Turner told the Vikings' official website. "We want to be an offense that helps win games. Stats aren't as important to me. There's key areas where we want to be good. We want to protect the ball. We want to be a great two-minute, great red-zone offense."

Last season, Turner worked with then-rookie quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and without star running back Adrian Peterson. As a result, his offense ranked 27th in terms of total yardage (5,048) and 20th in terms of points per game (20.3).

Things are looking up for the future, though. Bridgewater, who really came along late last season, has a valuable year of NFL experience under his belt. It also helps that Peterson, still the league's finest rusher, is slated to make his return to the field.

The Vikings' offensive X-factor is the addition of wide receiver Mike Wallace, whose blazing speed should help stretch the field. Turner also touched on what Wallace brings to Minnesota.

"He's a playmaker," Turner said of Wallace, via Vikings.com. "The more guys you have that can make big plays and score touchdowns—he caught 10 touchdowns last year. I laugh when people talk about [how] he wasn't successful in Miami. He was a very productive player and did the things they asked him to do."

While the Vikings have a tantalizing trio of offensive skill position players in Bridgewater, Peterson and Wallace, they will be rendered useless if the offensive line fails to come together. Turner mentioned the line as one of his top priorities, but he won't be able to settle on a starting lineup until he sees how his personnel handles more physical training camp practices.
