Vikings enter free agency wary of risk

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) The Minnesota Vikings will again enter NFL free agency with a conservative approach.

They've made their share of high-dollar signings over the past decade, but under general manager Rick Spielman the roster-building philosophy has further grown toward drafting and developing. Most of their money is spent on their own players.

When the market officially opens Wednesday afternoon with the new league year, the Vikings have the salary-cap space to be competitive with needs in the secondary and on the offensive line for starters. But Spielman and coach Mike Zimmer have spoken warily this offseason about the allure of free agency.

The Vikings retained another one of their own Tuesday by re-signing linebacker Audie Cole to a one-year contract.
