Tyler Gaffney trying to get past injury, catch on with Patriots

BY foxsports • June 17, 2015

The 2014 season was a forgetful one for running back Tyler Gaffney. Gaffney tore his meniscus during training camp while he was with the Carolina Panthers. When the team tried to waive him, the New England Patriots swooped in and picked him up.

While never being able to suit up for the Patriots as he recovered from the season-ending injury, Gaffney learned a lot while patrolling the Patriot sideline. With running backs Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen both on different teams, an opportunity presents itself for Gaffney to contribute to the Patriots as they try and defend their Super Bowl title.

For a team that used about every running back option it had on the depth chart last season, Gaffney is trying to put his best foot forward during OTAs.

“You put your best effort out here, and it’s up to the coaches,” he said. “Whatever you can bring to the table you’d like to bring, and from there it’s on them.”

The sixth round draft pick enters his second season in the NFL and will be competing with LeGarrette Blount, James White, Jonas Gray, Dion Lewis, Brandon Bolden and Travaris Cadet for a roster spot.
