Trent Williams To Return To Left Tackle Position For Washington Redskins
Trent Williams is returning from a four game suspension in Week 14. As expected, he will return to the left tackle position.
Well, it is safe to say that the four games without Trent Williams went as well as they could for the Washington Redskins. Though they only went 2-2 in the contests, the team’s offensive line fared well in three of the contests. Ty Nsekhe fared well at the position until he was hobbled this past week against the Cardinals. His early play had some wondering if the team would consider keeping him in the lineup and moving Williams to guard.
On Monday, Jay Gruden smashed the idea of Williams moving inside. He said the following of Williams, per ESPN’s John Keim.

He’s our starting tackle and he’s the best in the business
This does not come as a major surprise. Though there was a chance that the team could have moved Williams inside, it always seemed unlikely. The fact is that no matter how well Nsekhe played, Williams was always going to be considered a better player. He has a strong body of work and is arguably the best in the league.
The only reason that the team would have moved Williams would have been to upgrade Shawn Lauvao. Lauvao has been the weak link on the offensive line, but he has not been a liability. The team should try to upgrade him in the future, but bringing in a replacement in the offseason makes more sense than moving Williams now. It would perhaps upgrade the line in the short term, but it would not be a substantial move.
At the end of the day, the Redskins will get better with the return of Williams. Their depth will improve and Kirk Cousins will be happy with the results. The franchise quarterback will get better protection and the offense could be in even better shape than they have been in.
