Together again: FSU coach Fisher tosses first pitch to Winston

We may be in the midst of baseball’s dog days of summer, but in Florida, it’s always football season.

Nowhere may that be truer than in Tampa. The Rays are struggling just to get to .500, the Florida State Seminoles (just a few hours’ drive up the Gulf Coast away in Tallahassee) are expected to contend in the ACC once again, and the Buccaneers have the city buzzing with that rookie quarterback who took down a few records (and picked a Heisman and national championship) while at FSU.

Oh yeah, training camp opens Friday.

So when the Rays took the field on Sunday to host the Baltimore Orioles, the battle for third place in the AL East was only the desert. The main course came before the game as Seminoles head coach Jimbo Fisher and former Seminoles QB / latest Buccaneers savior Jameis Winston teamed up to deliver the first pitch.

Winston was also a pitcher at Florida State, and he sure can chuck a football. "Of course I miss baseball, but we've got training camp around the corner," he told The Associated Press after the first pitch.

But on this day, he was behind the plate, setting up the target for his old coach. You can see how they did in the video above.

Here is another look and the customary photo.

And in case you forgot:

Further proof the good folks of Tampa Bay are ready for football season to get here? Orioles 5, Rays 2.
