Titans corner Webb earns more playing time
Tennessee Titans cornerback B.W. Webb, who finished last week's loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars as the team's third cornerback, will likely continue in that role Sunday against the New York Jets, interim head coach Mike Mularkey said Wednesday.
Webb, a former practice squad player, supplanted 2013 third-round pick Blidi Wreh-Wilson as Tennessee's third corner behind starters Perrish Cox and Coty Sensabaugh.
A three-year veteran, Webb played in 11 games for the Pittsburgh Steelers last season and credits his familiarity with Dick LeBeau's defense for helping him make an impact with the Titans. LeBeau, Pittsburgh's longtime defensive coordinator joined the Titans as an assistant in the offseason.
“We knew each other’s history,” Webb said of LeBeau, per the Tennesseean. “Coming in here, I didn’t have to learn a whole new playbook in learning defense here.”
In five games this season, Webb has 10 tackles and along with an interception. The 25-year-old picked off New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees in the end zone during Tennessee's overtime win against the Saints on Nov. 11, first game on the active roster this year.
