Titans CB Perrish Cox fitting in nicely
Cornerback Perrish Cox has arrived in Tennessee with an opportunity.
Last year's starter, Blidi Wreh-Wilson, is out, recovering from shoulder surgery. That's given Cox, who signed with the Titans as free agent, a chance to start in OTAs opposite Jason McCourty.
So far head coach Ken Whisenhunt has liked what he's seen from Cox.
"He’s done a nice job," Whisenhunt said, according to ESPN's Paul Kuharsky. "I think he’s been close on a lot of balls, had his hands on a couple. Early last year he had his hands on a lot of balls, and that was one of the things you really liked. It’s good to see him doing it out here."
While Cox is playing well now, maintaining his play will be a particular emphasis for the 28-year-old. Cox, who played for San Francisco last year, started the season strong before tailing off.
"No excuses with that at all," Cox said. "That was my first time playing that much in so long, playing all those positions and not really coming off the field. If I wanted to pinpoint something, that’s what I’d say, I wore down some.
"I’ve just got to keep my body fresh, just keep the working going. I could later on in the season kind of see myself getting away from lifting and doing my extra that I normally do. It’s putting the extra work in and just keeping my body right."
The Titans figure to need him at his best all season. Even after Wreh-Wilson returns, the team lacks significant depth at corner. The Titans didn't address the position in the draft and backup Brandon Harris is out for the year with a torn ACL.
