The Saints skipped conditioning to help build a park for West Virginia flood victims

The first day of training camp for the New Orleans Saints is typically one that lacks fun. A conditioning test is usually on the slate, which is something no player -- particularly the linemen -- wants to be put through.

However, rather than running sprints and working on getting in football shape, the Saints helped out in the community.

The area surrounding The Greenbrier, where the Saints hold training camp, was hit with a massive flood that damaged everything in its path last month, tragically claiming the lives of 26 people, too. It even forced the PGA Tour to cancel The Greenbrier Classic last month.

To support the community that has welcomed the Saints year after year, head coach Sean Payton took his 90 players and had them rebuild a park that was destroyed by the flooding. Their efforts included painting, shoveling mulch, moving bleachers, and cleaning up a baseball dugout.

It’s no surprise Payton and the Saints were so willing to help out. After going through Hurricane Katrina 11 years ago, those in the New Orleans community understand how beneficial help and support is. This was a truly fantastic move by Payton -- one that Sulphur Springs will be grateful for.
