The Jets' GM says re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick remains his top priority
New York Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan explained at his Friday predraft press conference that the team hasn’t changed its priorities at quarterback despite the fact it hasn’t yet accomplished the No. 1 thing on its offseason list.
The Jets may have brought in free-agent quarterback Brian Hoyer for a visit this week, but Maccagnan assured reporters that the team has never wavered from its intention to re-sign its own free agent, Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick, 33, is coming off a career season in his one year with the Jets, having thrown for 3,905 yards and 31 touchdowns with just 15 interceptions, but he and the Jets reportedly remain far apart in negotiations. With most other teams having settled on their quarterbacks, the Jets seem to be willing to wait a little while longer for things to come together with Fitzpatrick. Maccagnan told reporters Friday that he didn’t “feel any pressure to have (a quarterback) by a specified time.”
That may be because organized team activities don’t begin until May 24.
