Stefon Diggs quick to credit blockers for big punt return
It did not take Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs, a fifth-round selection in this year's draft, very long to make his first big play. During the Vikings 14-3 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday night, he returned a punt 62 yards and was tackled just shy of the goal line.
Diggs could have basked in his rookie glory. Instead, he credited the blocking on the play.
"It was just great blocks," Diggs said, via Mark Craig of the Star-Tribune. "I tried to set up some great blocks. There were some key blocks down the stretch, and I was just trying to be quick and make plays with my feet."
Diggs caught two other punts -- one he returned four yards, one he fair caught. On offense, he caught two passes for 14 yards. Overall, it was a successful first outing, but Diggs was critical of himself.
"I made some mistakes that you might not have been able to see," Diggs said, per the Star-Tribune. "I just want to get better all around and contribute more."
The hype around Diggs is certainly swelling, yet the rookie remains humble. Pretty impressive for a rising playmaker who's only 21 years old.
