Steelers draft Kent St's Dri Archer
PITTSBURGH (AP) The Pittsburgh Steelers chose Kent State running back/wide receiver Dri Archer in the third round of the NFL draft Friday night.
The 5-foot-8, 173-pound Archer posted a combine-best 4.26-second 40-yard dash among running backs. He often lined up as a slot receiver for the Golden Flashes and could do the same in Pittsburgh.
The pick was compensation pick for free agent departures and the only third-round pick Pittsburgh had this year. The Steelers traded this year's third-round pick to the Cleveland Browns last season as part of a draft-day deal that brought in Shamarko Thomas in the fourth round.
Archer joins fellow Pittsburgh draft picks Stephon Tuitt, a Notre Dame lineman who was selected earlier Friday in the second round, and first-round pick Ryan Shazier, an Ohio State linebacker.
