Steelers coach Mike Tomlin likes what he sees from the Eagles
Nobody sees the Philadelphia Eagles’ week three contest with the Pittsburgh Steelers going exactly like it did in week two of the preseason do they?
Mike Tomlin, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers was gracious enough to give a few members of the Philadelphia media a phone interview as his team gets ready to meet the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. It wasn’t too long before he was asked if this contest would, in any way, resemble the game both teams played in week two of the preseason. Does anyone really need an answer to that one?
The Eagles walked out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with a 17-0 win. It was kind of hard to get excited about that victory or get an idea of what it meant when so many of the guys the Steelers would be fielding on week three of the regular season weren’t even on the field. The Philadelphia media asked Coach Tomlin what changes this Eagles team could expect from the Steelers strategically in Sunday’s matchup.
“Don’t expect me to pull the curtain back on that one” Coach Tomlin stated.
Many believe this will be the Eagles’ first loss of the season as the Steelers provide the Eagles’ toughest match-up thus far. Overall, Tomlin was very complimentary of the Eagles’ team as a whole, giving kudos to the offense and rookie quarterback Carson Wentz. He also gave a surprise shout out to running back Ryan Mathews who the Steelers once worked out themselves for a possible roster spot. “We like his game a lot. He’s well balanced”.

Tomlin likened Wentz’s developing chemistry with his receivers, particularly the tight ends and Jordan Matthews to that of Steelers quarterback and wide receiver Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown. “I’d like to think that happens in every city…You get a sense of non-verbal communication. It’s a head-nod. It’s an eye contact.”
Figure the Steeler’s offensive approach to try and offset some of what the Eagles have done with their play at safety as Tomlin was very complimentary of both Malcolm Jenkins and Rodney McLeod. He sees great potential for the season in what both do in the running and passing game stating they “take great angles” and that defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz has done a great job all the way around.
Does anybody else have football fever yet? These games just aren’t coming around fast enough.
