Source: Jags' search for GM begins
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan is wasting no time in trying to find a new general manager.
Hours after firing Gene Smith, a source tells FOXSports.com NFL insider Jay Glazer that Khan interviewed Atlanta Falcons player personnel director David Caldwell for the GM opening.
Caldwell is finishing his fifth season with the Falcons. He spent the previous four years as the team’s college scouting director, helping general manager Thomas Dimitroff hit on such picks as wide receiver Julio Jones, linebacker Sean Weatherspoon and safety William Moore.
Caldwell was promoted last offseason to replace Les Snead, who became general manager in St. Louis.
Glazer also reported that San Diego and Arizona have requested permission to interview Caldwell for their vacant GM spots. A.J. Smith and Rod Graves were fired Monday by the Chargers and Cardinals respectively.
The Jets and Chargers, both of whom fired their GMs, also have interest in Caldwell.
Caldwell is a protégé of Bill Polian, a multi-time winner of NFL Executive of the Year honors.
