Source: Byner discussing job with Bucs

One of the most storied running backs in NFL history may be ready to coach the position for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

A source told that Earnest Byner was meeting with Bucs officials Sunday about the team’s vacant running backs coaching spot.

A 14-year NFL veteran, Byner retired as the NFL’s 16th-leading all-time rusher in 1997 with 8,261 yards. Byner played for Cleveland, Baltimore and Washington, winning a Super Bowl ring with the 1991 Redskins. Byner immediately segued into NFL coaching when his playing days ended and spent the past two seasons with Jacksonville.

The Bucs also are interviewing Steve Loney on Monday for an assistant offensive line coaching position, a source told Loney spent the past four seasons as the St. Louis Rams’ offensive line coach. He had previously worked with Minnesota and Arizona.
