Seattle's Red Bryant fined for headbutt

Published Oct. 26, 2011 9:26 p.m. ET

Seattle defensive end Red Bryant lost his cool. Now he's about to lose ''a pretty penny.''

Bryant said Wednesday that he was fined for headbutting Cleveland tight end Alex Smith in the final minute of last Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Browns. Bryant was flagged for a personal foul and ejected from the game.

Bryant would not disclose how much he was fined, other than to say it was a ''costly mistake.'' He said he planned to appeal.

The personal foul overshadowed one of Bryant's finest games as a pro. He finished with four tackles, shared in a sack of Browns QB Colt McCoy and blocked two field goal attempts.
