Seahawks' Wilson halts slump with first-half touchdown flurry
While rookie running back Thomas Rawls stole the headlines, Russell Wilson played more than a bit part in the Seattle Seahawks' 29-13 victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Wilson had his finest game of the season, throwing for 260 yards and three touchdowns on pinpoint 24-for-29 passing. It marked the first time since December 2013 that Wilson threw three touchdowns in a regular-season contest and his 82.8 percent completion percentage represented a career high.
"I thought across the board we played great football," Wilson said. "I thought offensively we came out strong and played relentless the whole game. The only times they stopped us, I felt like was when we kind of got off schedule a little bit."
Wilson had not thrown for more than one scoring pass in seven straight games and was coming off a mediocre outing in last weekend's loss to Arizona, but said there was a simple solution to bouncing back. “I ignore the noise,” Wilson said.
Wilson came out with a purpose against the 49ers, leading Seattle to touchdown drives on its first three possessions for a commanding 20-0 lead. He sandwiched a pair of scoring passes to rookie Tyler Lockett around a short touchdown run by Rawls, who finished with 209 yards on the ground.
“He was 12 of 13 in the first half, and the one was a throw-away,” Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of Wilson. “I think all of that showed really good poise in the pocket, really good job of picking what he needed to get out of there and make something happen, and he took care of the football beautifully all day.”
