Seahawks' Jesse Williams returns to practice after cancer diagnosis

Published Aug. 6, 2015 1:57 p.m. ET

After being diagnosed with papillary Type 2 cancer in May and undergoing kidney surgery, Seahawks' defensive tackle Jesse Williams has made his long awaited return to the field.

“Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this," Williams said at the time of his diagnosis, via the team website. "I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!"

He has clearly continued to fight, his return coming just three months later.

Williams was originally drafted by the Seahawks in 2013 and became the first indigenous Australian to win a Super Bowl after Seattle's win over the Broncos.
