Seahawks DT Williams cleared to return after surgery for kidney cancer
Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Jesse Williams has received medical clearance to return to the field after undergoing surgery for kidney cancer.
Williams, a fifth-round draft pick of the Seahawks in 2013 who had a kidney removed in May, posted the news on his Twitter account Thursday.
“Finally Got the All clear to return to Football. Now just wait for my Opportunity,” Williams tweeted.
The cancer diagnosis was the latest - and biggest - setback for Williams, who has yet to play a down in the NFL after undergoing knee surgery in each of his first two seasons with Seattle. Williams returned from kidney surgery to play in the preseason opener but was held out for the 2015 season.
A native of Brisbane, Australia, the former University of Alabama standout is an exclusive rights free agent. The 6-foot-3, 325-pound Williams will become an unrestricted free agent if Seattle does not make him a qualifying offer by March 9.
