Saints go with Hartley at kicker vs Redskins

Published Dec. 12, 2009 8:30 p.m. ET

The unbeaten New Orleans Saints opted for kicker Garrett Hartley in place of veteran John Carney for Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins.

Also, Saints running back Reggie Bush was active after missing two games with a knee injury.

Carney was on the inactive list for the game, along with linebackers Marvin Mitchell and Scott Fujita and cornerbacks Randall Gay, Jabari Greer and Tracy Porter.

Carney has made 13 of 17 field goal attempts this season, but he needed a carom off the upright to convert a 30-yarder and missed from 37 yards in the win over New England on Monday night.

For the Redskins, cornerback DeAngelo Hall missed his second consecutive game with a sprained knee. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth returned after sitting out two games with a sprained ankle.

Hartley missed four games earlier this season while serving a suspension for use of a banned stimulant. The second-year kicker from Oklahoma had yet to play this season.

Mitchell and Gay have hamstring injuries, Greer has a hurt groin, and Fujita has a knee injury. Porter sat out his third straight game with an ailing knee.
