Ryan Fitzpatrick to remain starter for Jets

Published Nov. 23, 2015 4:41 p.m. ET

For the second consecutive game, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled. The New York Jets quarterback threw two more interceptions against the Houston Texans on Sunday, his fourth in the last two games.

While his poor play of late is alarming, his head coach won't be making a change at quarterback just yet. After the game, Todd Bowles said Fitzpatrick would remain the starter, though there would be a conversation coming.

On Monday, that discussion was had, and the coaching staff came to the conclusion that Fitzpatrick is their guy. Bowles was asked if Fitzpatrick will be on a shorter leash, to which he said "no, he's our starting quarterback."

"We went over the film like we always do and we judge everybody and we rate every player," Bowles said, via Seth Walder of the New York Daily News. "He missed some throws, but like everybody else ... we did a lot of things wrong as a group that we've got to correct."

A switch to Geno Smith won't happen right now, but a couple more performances like the past two and Fitzpatrick's leash could indeed get a bit shorter.
