Running back Bishop Sankey signed to Minnesota Vikings practice squad

The Minnesota Vikings have made a transaction to sign former Tennessee Titans running back Bishop Sankey to the team’s practice squad.

After the release of running back Ronnie Hillman from the main roster of the Minnesota Vikings, fans were left wondering what the team would do in order to have some more depth at the position going forward.

That news was delivered on Friday, November 25, 2016, when it was announced that the team signed former Tennessee Titans running back Bishop Sankey to the practice squad to fill the gap left by promoting Stephen Weatherly to the main roster.

The Vikings broke the news on their official Twitter account earlier today:

Sankey has some potential to develop into a solid player. In 2014, he was a second round draft pick by the Titans following a solid NCAA career with the Washington Huskies, where he scored 38 touchdowns and accumulated 3,496 yards on the ground over his three years of play.

However, Sankey’s pro career hasn’t been as great. With the Titans, he has scored only four total touchdowns in two seasons of play. More concerning, he fumbled the football three times during that stretch, losing two of them.

As with all practice squad players, the Vikings will be evaluating the talent of Sankey to see if he’s the kind of player the team can develop into a regular contributor.

Bishop Sankey joins C.J. Ham as the two running backs on the practice squad. With only Jerick McKinnon and Matt Asiata as the primary ball carriers on the main roster, either of these players could get called up to the main roster at any time.

Welcome to the Minnesota Vikings, Bishop Sankey. Although things didn’t quite work out with the Titans, that doesn’t mean the running back can’t find a place he fits in to call home. And that could start on the Minnesota practice squad.
