Rumors: Philadelphia Eagles Will Pursue DeSean Jackson In The Offseason

Published Jun. 30, 2017 6:28 p.m. ET

DeSean Jackson is slated to be a free agent after this season. He could end up returning to the Philadelphia Eagles in during the offseason.

The Washington Redskins are going to have some decisions to make this offseason in regards to their receiving corps. Their strong veteran options, Pierre Garcon and DeSean Jackson, are scheduled to be free agents and the team will have a tough time retaining the two. It appears that the team is more likely to pursue Garcon, which leaves Jackson as a potential free agent.

Should Jackson hit the free agent market, there will be a good amount of interest in him. Though he will be 30, he still has game breaking speed and should have a few solid years left in the tank. Over the past couple of days, there have been some rumblings that the Philadelphia Eagles are likely to pursue Jackson in free agency. This was confirmed in a piece by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Eagles’ interest in Jackson makes a great deal of sense. The team has a couple of high upside young receivers in Jordan Matthews and Dorial Green-Beckham, but former first round pick Nelson Agholor has been a huge disappointment. He was supposed to be a Jackson-esque player, but he has not played well at all. He struggles with drops and could land in the doghouse if his poor play persists.

Additionally, Jackson has experience working with Doug Pederson, as he used to be the Eagles’ offensive coordinator under Andy Reid. The duo was able to use Jackson properly before they left the team prior to the 2013 season. Then, Chip Kelly came to town and Jackson fell out of favor. The team parted ways with Jackson which is what landed him in Washington. The move seemed to be entirely Kelly’s doing, and after he left the team, interest in reacquiring Jackson started to ramp up.

It remains to be seen whether or not the team will actually pursue Jackson. However, if they do the Redskins would have to face twice a year. That would be intriguing to say the least. As more news on Jackson’s status comes out, we will continue to keep you updated.
