The Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger returned in the third quarter of Thursday's game against the Cleveland Browns after leaving late in the second quarter with what appeared to be a left-ankle injury.
An X-ray on the ankle was negative, the NFL reported, and Roethlisberger limped back on to the field with his left ankle heavily taped.
Roethlisberger, who had completed eight of nine passes for 102 yards and a touchdown, went down to the turf with 5:59 remaining before halftime after being caught in a pile following a sack. He was helped off the field.
Charlie Batch briefly replaced the injured Roethlisberger, who has been playing with a broken thumb he suffered in a Week 10 game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
