Browns rookie Trent Richardson has had surgery on his left knee.
The Browns issued a statement Thursday that the running back, drafted No. 3 overall, had what the team termed ''routine arthroscopic'' surgery by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Fla.
Andrews did a similar procedure on Richardson on Feb. 3, to repair damaged meniscus cartilage.
Coach Pat Shurmur, with the team in Detroit, where the Browns open their preseason Friday night, issued a statement saying that he hoped Richardson would be able to return by the season opener Sept. 9.
