Richard Dent: I would try to knock Cam Newton out of the game
Richard Dent is not a Cam Newton fan.
Dent, a Hall of Fame defensive lineman and member of the 1985 Super Bowl champion Chicago Bears, doesn’t like Newton’s antics and said he would try to knock Newton out of the game if he faced him.
“It’s disrespect,” Dent told USA Today Sports when asked about Newton’s touchdown-celebration habit.
Newton is used to his detractors. In the past, he’s suggested that teams who don’t like seeing him celebrate should simply keep him out of the end zone. Dent seems fine with that.
“I’m going to knock your a-- out of the game,” Dent said. “That would’ve been my approach. At some point in the game -- not with a cheap shot -- I’m going to try to get a shot that puts you out for the day. That’s the risk when you want to showboat all the time.”
Well, then. Newton has said that he’s not trying to disrespect anyone. He just thinks it’s fun, but that message falls on deaf ears. And it’s a bit funny to hear this coming from someone who had a significant role in the Super Bowl Shuffle video.
Of course, Newton has a message of his own to people like Dent.
