Report: Vick-Foles in real battle

Published Jul. 30, 2013 1:00 a.m. ET

Is Michael Vick fighting for more than just his starting job?

According to Geoff Mosher of CSNPhilly.com, the battle between veteran Vick and Nick Foles for the starting quarterback job goes much further – it could also be a fight for a spot on the Phildelphia Eagles roster.

According to the report, the Eagles are prepared to have Matt Barkley as the backup and Dennis Dixon as the third string quarterback, putting more pressure on the Vick-Foles battle.

Foles is 24 and with seven games to his credit, but the report states that the team is tired of waiting for Foles to develop and that his time to step up is now. Vicks has spent the last four seasons with the Eagles.

The report adds that Foles is not really faring well in that regard to date, pointing out that Sunday “when the Eagles went live in the red zone for the first time in training camp, he went just two-of-six passing.” While those passes were for touchdowns, that’s not a dynamic percentage. Vick reportedly went three for five, throwing two touchdowns and rushing for a touchdown.

The race may not just be down to those two, either, with Barkley also having a shot at the job.
