Report: Shea McClellin's knee injury only a 'short-term' problem

Published Oct. 14, 2015 10:16 a.m. ET

The Chicago Bears will be without their best inside linebacker but maybe not for long. Shea McClellin hurt his knee against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 5, but Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune is describing it as only a "short-term" injury.

McClellin will rest his knee this weekend, when the Bears take on the Lions at Ford Field. In preparation for Sunday, Chicago will bolster its depth at the linebacker by bringing Jonathan Anderson up from the practice squad, according to the Tribune.

The Bears have already cleared the roster spot for Anderson by waiving third-string quarterback David Fales, who was re-signed when Jay Cutler had to miss a game with a hamstring injury.

Before deciding on Anderson, the Bears also considered some outside talent. They had Lawrence Sidbury, Trevardo Williams and Jonathan Massaquoi in for workouts, per the Tribune.

Anderson is an undrafted rookie out of TCU. He first impressed the Bears during training camp, and he stood out enough during the preseason to warrant a spot on the practice squad.
