Report: Seahawks discussing team protest during national anthem

Linebacker Bobby Wagner says the Seattle Seahawks may consider protesting the national anthem as a team in Seattle's season opener against the Miami Dolphins, according to the Seattle Times.

“Anything we want to do, it’s not going to be individual. It’s going to be a team thing,” Wagner said. “That’s what the world needs to see. The world needs to see people coming together versus being individuals.”

The decision to protest stems from San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick choice not to stand for the national anthem during the preseason in protest of racial inequalities and injustices taking place in America, including police-related violence.

Wide receiver Doug Baldwin said he has not decided whether he will sit during the season opener but it has been discussed as a team. Cornerback Jeremy Lane was seen sitting during the national anthem in the final preseason game.

Baldwin expressed his support for the protest movement with a series of tweets.

Head coach Pete Carroll said he is fine with whatever the team decides to do.
