Report: Packers will call Reggie Wayne, if Nelson is out for season
The Green Bay Packers are searching for solutions at wide receiver in the wake of Jordy Nelson's knee injury, suffered during a preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon. If the damage is as bad as what's being reported, the team may look to sign free agent Reggie Wayne.
Wayne, 36, has played all 14 seasons of his NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts. Despite his impressive résumé, which includes six Pro Bowl appearances, Wayne has eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards only once since parting ways with Peyton Manning after the 2010 season. He is coming off a 64-catch campaign in which he recorded 779 yards and two touchdowns.
Even if the Packers are able to add Wayne, the veteran pass-catcher won't be able to replace Nelson's impact all on his own. Nelson had a career-best season last year with 98 receptions for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance.
