Report: No fine for Bengals' Burfict after hit on Big Ben
The NFL apparently did not agree with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's assessment that Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was trying to hurt him with a low tackle during Pittsburgh's win last Sunday.
Burfict's agent, Audie Attar, told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the league will not fine his client for his low hit after reviewing the play. Roethlisberger said Tuesday that Burfict claimed after the play that he was pushed by a teammate and couldn't avoid the contact. After reviewing the film, Roethlisberger wasn't buying the claim.
Burfict, who also made the tackle that ended Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell's season in Week 8, didn't have much to say when asked about Roethlisberger's comments on Wednesday.
"It's football," Burfict told ESPN.com's Coley Harvey.
UPDATE: Schefter reported via Burfict's agent that a fine was indeed issued to Burfict on Thursday for the hit and two separate unnecessary roughness offenses. The Bengals linebacker is appealing.
