Report: Manning 'excited' for Burress

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning is glad to see that former — and possibly future — Giants teammate Plaxico Burress' lengthy prison sentence is finally set to expire next month, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

"Obviously he's served his time, plus some," Manning said Monday night at a charity event in While Plains, N.Y.

Burress is scheduled to be released from prison on June 6. He will have served 20 months of a two-year sentence after pleading guilty to weapons charges following an incident at a nightclub in November 2008 when a gun he was carrying in the waistband of his pants went off, shooting him in the leg.

Manning did not rule out the possibility of Burress, who caught the winning touchdown pass from Manning in the Giants' 17-14 win over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLII, returning to the Giants following his release.

"I'm excited that he's getting out, and if the Giants or another team give him a shot, I'll look forward to getting him back into football," Manning said.

Giants general manager Jerry Reese said in January he would not rule out the return of the 33-year-old Burress after his release from prison.
