Report: Jets' Muhammad Wilkerson won't hold out of camp

The New York Jets and Muhammad Wilkerson have yet to come to an agreement on a long-term deal, but the 25-year-old defensive lineman reportedly won't hold out of training camp. According to the New York Post, Wilkerson will report to camp on time on Wednesday.

This comes as good news for the Jets, who will already be without Sheldon Richardson for the first four games of the season. Having Wilkerson in camp will be important on many fronts, especially for rookie Leonard Williams. Wilkerson can be a beneficial player for Williams' development, and that begins with training camp. Wilkerson did participate in mandatory minicamp in June, but having him on the field for training camp and throughout preseason is key.

Wilkerson will play this season under his rookie contract, the last year of the deal. It will pay him $6.96 million this year. If a long-term deal isn't reached, Wilkerson will be a free agent following this season, and should command a hefty price tag. If the Jets want to keep this elite defensive line in tact for years to come, Wilkerson's contract situation has to be resolved.
