Report: Jameis Winston works with second team at OTAs Thursday

Jameis Winston may be the quarterback of the future for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but nothing is being handed to him on a silver platter. According to Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com, Winston spent Thursday's organized team activity working with the second team.

Now, for those who are pushing hard for Winston to be the No. 1 quarterback heading into the 2015 season, don't stress too much just yet. Lovie Smith pointed out that Winston has gotten work with the first team, but it's being split between him and Mike Glennon.

"Jameis and everybody else, you've got to earn your position. Jameis is getting his first-team reps,'' Smith told ESPN. "You guys are here on Thursday. There's Wednesday, and he was with the first group then, so don't look too much into that. We just want the guys that we think can play to get reps, and we want them to work with a lot of different combinations. Jameis is right on schedule. We're not disappointed or anything like that.''

The Bucs are truly just doing their homework on both quarterbacks before making the decision. With that said, it still seems more than likely that Winston will be the starter in Week 1 of the 2015 NFL season.

According to The Tampa Tribune, Winston recently was described as quiet by wide receiver Vincent Jackson. But apparently, it's a good thing.

“Even at the quarterback position, a rookie is still a rookie,’’ Jackson told Roy Cummings of The Tampa Tribune. “They’re going to be a little bashful, a little quiet (while) they’re learning their way around.

“That’s how he has been. He’s been a little quiet. He knows when to pick and choose his spots, but for the most he’s just come in and done his work. And we really appreciate that.’’

Well, Jameis hasn't exactly been the Jameis that we've come to know, but his teammates seem to be happy with how's going about his business on the field. Here's to enjoying the positive things we're reading about the young signal caller for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers throughout the 2015 offseason.
