Report: Dolphins trade for Evan Mathis not likely
Offensive guard Evan Mathis has been a part of trade rumors all offseason long, but the disgruntled offensive lineman remains a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite Mathis' impressive blocking grades per Pro Football Focus, Kelly and the Eagles may have grown tired of his dissatisfaction with his current contract. The Miami Dolphins were constantly linked to Mathis in pre-draft trade rumors, but Mathis' agent Drew Rosenhaus has confirmed that those reports were highly exaggerated.
“I’ve been given permission by the Eagles to shop Evan,” Drew Rosenhaus said on the Joe Rose Show on WQAM. “We thought we had a trade with another team leading up to the Draft. It was not the Dolphins. It kind of fell through based on what the team did in the draft but right now it doesn’t appear the Dolphins are a strong possibility. We’ve never really gotten close on a trade with the Dolphins.”
Mathis is seeking a new contract and the Eagles are unlikely to give it to him. With little interest on the open market, this situation is heading toward a stalemate. The key date to keep in mind is June 16th when the Eagles open their mandatory minicamp. If Mathis refuses to show up for that, we could be headed toward an ugly dispute that lasts throughout the summer months.
