The Detroit Lions shook up their depth chart at quarterback by claiming Garrett Gilbert from the New England Patriots. The transaction became official when Lions senior writer Tim Twentyman announced that Gilbert had passed his physical.

Gilbert, a SMU product, was a sixth-round pick of the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL draft but finished his rookie season on the Patriots practice squad.

To make room for Gilbert on the roster, the Lions have released udrafted rookie quarterback Anthony Boone, according to Kyle Meinke of MLive.com.
